HANDICAP FAQ - CLUB LICENSING FOR 2016

Q. I saw that the MGA is working with Member Clubs to make sure they are properly licensed for the 2016 handicap season. Why do you have to do that?

A. The USGA requires that all clubs in the United States wishing to utilize the USGA Handicap System be properly licensed.

As such, the MGA works with the proper representative at your club (handicap chairperson, golf pro, etc.) to make sure that all Member Clubs are in full compliance and thus will be authorized to issue a USGA Handicap Index to their members during this upcoming season.

How can you help?

If your club is not yet properly licensed for the 2016 season (CLICK HERE for a complete list), then we ask that you reach out to your golf pro or handicap chairperson and ask them to contact our office immediately. The process of being licensed is simple and takes about an hour of one's time.

Any questions can be directed to Mike Wice via email (mwice@mgalinks.org) or phone (774-430-9100 x 2209).

READY FOR 2016 - A GOLDEN PASSPORT TO PLAY

Do you like to play different courses? Do you like saving money while supporting a great association?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, you should consider purchasing the 2016 edition of the Golden Passport to New England Golf.

This booklet is published annually by the New England Golf Course Owners Association (NEGCOA).

The 2016 Golden Passport to New England Golf is a booklet that features 41 courses and includes rounds of golf for two (and sometimes four) at championship, award winning courses throughout the region.

For the past eight years, The Golden Passport to New England Golf has provided an outstanding playing opportunity for golfers who are new to the game, for those who are planning regional golf vacations, or for players who have temporarily frozen their private club memberships.

Even the most seasoned golfer can spice up their golf game by trying out new courses. Every round in the Golden Passport was donated by New England courses and all funds go to support the association. The cost is $349 plus $7.50 for S/H.

CLICK HERE to purhcase your copy before they are gone (there were only seven booklets left at last count!)

When in Doubt... You can now activate your GHIN # online.

In order to register for any MGA Championship or Member Day event, you must have an active handicap index with an MGA Member Club.

Your friends at the MGA are here to help by offering up a New Year's resolution for all golfers - don't let yourself ever become inactive in the handicap system again.

After all, many Member Clubs inactivate their members during the winter months in order to prepare for the new season.

If this happens to you, please know that you can now activate your GHIN # online immediately via the MGA Members Now! program.

CLICK HERE to learn more about this program that is helping golfers always stay active.

Having a handicap index means that you are a member of the MGA and are eligible to take advantage of a slew of member benefits. Learn More

SEND US YOUR 2016 CHARITY EVENT INFORMATION

Golf has a longstanding history of giving back to society through its programs aimed at juniors to its many charitable events.

In 2012, the total amount of charitable giving attributed to the game of golf was roughly $74.3 million. (click here to learn more about the incredible impact that golf has on the local economy!).

As a public service and thanks to our friends at Tournament Solutions, the MGA posts a list of New England charity golf events on mgalinks.org under the 'Player Services' tab on the site's home page.

If you would like to have your 2016 charity-related event posted, please send an email to info@mgalinks.org and include any event contact information.
