At Charter Oak Country Club, Boston resident Arthur Zelmati led the group of seven qualifiers behind a 1-under 70 performance, totaling five birdies to four bogeys in 18 holes. Starting on the 10th tee, Zelmati was at even-par through seven holes and rebounded from a bogey on the 17th hole by birdying the 18th to make the turn at even. Once on his second nine, he collected a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole, which at 580 yards was the longest hole of the day, and added birdies on par-4 sixth and eighth holes.

On Cape Cod at the Dennis Highlands Golf Course qualifier, nine players were separated by only three strokes. Taylor Kay-Green, of Charles River Country Club, was the only competitor to finish under par, recording five birdies to three bogeys to secure medalist honors

At Franklin Country Club, two of the 10 qualifiers finished under par, with Hopkinton Country Club’s Connor Henderson placing atop the leaderboard. With four birdies in his first nine holes, Henderson, a member of the Bryant University Men’s Golf team, made the turn at 4-under 31 and despite recording three bogeys in four holes on his back nine, he was able to finish strong by birdying his last hole of the day.

An additional eight competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot at each of the three respective sites, earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

Celebrating its 111th year in 2019, the Massachusetts Amateur Championship remains the oldest Mass Golf Championship open to men and women alike. Entries were open to amateur competitors with a 4.4 Handicap Index who were either exempt based on previous performance in Mass Golf competition and/or USGA events, or who advanced from one of 12 qualifying sites held across the Bay State between May 29 and June 26.
