Dan Cappucci and John Hadges Top 19 QUALIFIERS AT Dedham C & PC ON WEDNESDAY

DEDHAM, Massachusetts –  On the first day of qualifying for the 2019 Massachusetts Mid Amateur Championship, 19 competitors from Wednesday’s qualifier at Dedham C & PC earned entrance into the Championship Proper being contested at Brae Burn CC at the end of September. The Championship Proper will feature 54-holes of stroke play over three days of competition.  The field will be cut down from 120 players to 30 plus ties after 36-holes.

An additional five competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot at today’s qualifying site earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

Looking to advance to the 2019 Massachusetts Mid Amateur Championship, Boston GC’s Dan Cappuci and Thorny Lea’s John Hadges posted the lowest rounds of the day shooting a 1-over 71. Cappucci tallied four birdies, five bogeys, and nine pars in Wednesday’s 18-hole qualifier. Hadges completed the qualifier similarly with three birdies, four bogeys, and 11 pars. Both making birdie on the par-5 10th hole and Capucci going birdie-birdie on 12 and 13.

Both players remained consistent throughout their round, while the course played tougher for the rest of the field. The Dedham C & PC qualifier was just one of three happening on Wednesday.

Celebrating its 36th year in 2019, the Massachusetts Mid Amateur Championship is one of Mass Golf’s youngest Championship. It is open to amateur golfers who have an active Mass Golf/GHIN Handicap Index at any public, private, semi-private, municipal or non-real estate Mass Golf member course/club and who have reached their 25th birthday by September 24, 2019.
