The Curtin’s Eight-Peat In The Mother-Son

STOW, Massachusetts – Wedgewood Pines Country Club played the part of a terrific host on Tuesday, as the Mother/Son Modified Scotch Tournament took place. The team of Sue and James Curtin would continue to make history in the event, as they won their eighth straight tournament title.

Jane and Nick Fiste (Gannon Municipal GC) capture the Division I honors

DIVISION 1:

Made up of sons aged 19 and over, Division One’s Gross division was claimed by the team of Jane and Nick Fiste (Gannon Municipal GC) who carded a one over 72, adding four birdies to their card. Genevieve Lynch (Winchester CC) and Christopher Lynch (Trull Brook GC)  would earn low net score, firing a three under 68 while making five birdies and an eagle.

“The shot of the day goes to my mom,” said Nike Fiste of his mother at the end of the round. “We were 10 feet short of the green on the fourth hole and she had a nice chip in birdie to really get us going.”

DIVISION 2:

Made up of sons aged 13-18, the Division Two winner was the team of Sue Curtin (Boston Golf Club) and James Curtin (Norfolk Golf Club). This was their eighth consecutive title across multiple divisions in this event, an all time record.

“This is always a great event and one of my favorites to compete in,” Sue Curtin said. “Wedgewood Pines had the course in great condition and the set up made you really think through your strategy. I always enjoy playing with my son in this tournament. It’s great to see the same faces out here year after year as well.”

The nine over par 80 was 10 strokes better than their closest competitors with only a few blemishes on the card.

“I really like golfing with my mom,” James Curtin said. “We have a lot of fun together and it’s pretty cool to win it eight years in a row.”

The net winners for Division Two were the duo of Elizabeth and Dylan Archer (CC of Greenfield) who carded a even par 71. The Archers made five net birdies along with a net eagle to cement themselves at the top of the leaderboard.

DIVISION 3:

Made up of sons that are 12 years and younger, the third division consists of a nine hole round for the pairings. The team of Tracy Welch and Bradford Adams (Winchester CC) swept the gross division, with a score of five over 41 gross. The net winner for Division Two were Cindy and William Remis (Andover CC) with a score of three over 39.
