Plymouth, MA Jack Kearney doesn’t let pressure affect him. Such was the case at 2nd Senior Hornblower Memorial Tournament at Plymouth Country Club on August 22 and 23.

The longtime Elmcrest Country Club member won the Hornblower Memorial Tournament in 2005. This time around, he enjoyed a similar fate in the senior edition but with an exciting finish.

With Don Reycroft (LeBaron Hill CC) sitting in the clubhouse with a two-day score of 140, which was the leading score at the time, Kearney needed to make par to send the match to a sudden-death playoff. Kearney had other plans though. Instead of making par, a feat he had already accomplished 15 times during his round, he took a chance on a birdie and the chance paid off.

Kearney made birdie the 18th hole to win the Championship with a two-day mark of 1-over par 139. The tournament, which featured 120 players, is 36-hole stroke play event open to golfers with an active GHIN index under 3.0.

Known as one of the most prestigious events in Massachusetts, the Hornblower Memorial Tournament is named after Henry Hornblower, the man responsible for the creation of what it now Plymouth Country Club.

The tournament introduced a stand-along Senior Hornblower Memorial Tournament in 2014 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Hornblower Memorial Tournament.

In the Super Senior Division of the Hornblower Memorial Tournament, which was established this year as part of the 50th celebration of the tournament, Ray Richard (Willowbend) was the winner after a two-day total of 8-over par 148.

The staff from the Hornblower Memorial Tournament states that the event was once again “an amazing success” and expresses their deep gratefulness to all who were involved in making that a reality.

They look forward to seeing everyone back at Plymouth Country Club next year for another great event!
