Headline: Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship Qualifying Concludes With Final Four Competitors Earning Spots on Thursday

For Immediate Release: July 6, 2017

The final day of MGA Junior Amateur Qualifying was held at Amherst Golf Club on July 6.

Amherst, MA — Less than 10 miles away from the Championship Proper site and on the same road nonetheless, the final four qualifiers for the 99th playing of the Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship were decided on Thursday at Amherst Golf Club – the sixth and final site for the junior amateur qualifying season.

The Championship Proper will take place at Orchards Golf Club in the abutting South Hadley from July 31-August 2.

At Amherst Golf Club, the pair of Jonathan Farrell (Springfield CC) and Kevin Quinto (Berkshire Hills CC) shot 4-over par 74 to share medalist honors atop the leaderboard.

They joined Jack Phelan (Orchards GC) and Matteo Godek (Agawam MGC), one half of the 2016 Massachusetts Father & Son Championship winning team, who carded scores of 5-over par 75 to round out the last of the competitors who filled up the Championship field.

In addition to the four qualifiers, Tyler Senecal, also of Orchards Golf Club, will look for the opportunity to advance to the Championship Proper after he was named an alternate on Thursday. The 16-year old Senecal carded a 6-over par 76, one stroke above the last qualifying spot, and will be placed on the alternate list per the alternate policy that is available on the MGA Policies and Procedures Page.
