Norton, MA — When the MGA rolls out its online registration on February 2 for all 12 of its Championship Proper’s, the date marks the official start of the 2017 golf season in the Bay State as the planning for each event will quickly take precedent and each respective qualifier will begin to fill up.

In addition to the beginning of the 2017 MGA season, the month of February also marks the first step for the 2017 Member Day season, as the MGA will be opening registration for the MGA Member Day lottery, one of the most popular programs offered in conjunction with an MGA membership.

The lottery-based registration system will officially open for all MGA Member Days on Thursday, February 9.

The announcement was made by Shawn Bennett, MGA Assistant Director of Rules and Competition, in late January when the first 14 dates and sites of 2017 Member Days were unveiled.

“The MGA is excited to begin the 2017 season and the Member Day schedule is an exciting part of the new season,” said Bennett, who has overseen the scheduling and operations of the Member Day program for the past two years.

The MGA Member Days schedule will begin on Monday, May 1 at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow and currently features 14 sites, including five clubs which are hosting an MGA Member Days for the first time in 2017.

Additional sites are expected to be added in the coming weeks and a complete schedule of 2017 sites can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.

While Bennett’s role has shifted with the addition of Drew Rosen to the full time staff as the new Manager of Member Events & Services, many of the enhancements to the Member Day events under his tenure will remain in place.

Among those enhancements was the addition of the MGA Member Day lottery system.

In 2016, the MGA introduced the new lottery-based system to maintain a fair and formal way to handle the high demand of members interested in participating in Member Days. The lottery system allows all members an equal opportunity at playing each event and if selected as a winner in the lottery, the internet-based system allows golfers to fill out all the necessary information and make payments all in one place.

Last year, former WCVB-TV sports reporter Mike Dowling, a longtime friend to the MGA and a current member of the Executive Committee, explained the MGA Member Day lottery system process by recording a video that takes members through the process of entering the lottery and the steps must take to ensure they are entered. The steps will remain the same in 2017.

Designed for golfers of all ages and playing abilities, the MGA Member Days are open to all MGA Member Golfers – male or female – who hold a current MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap index with an MGA Member Club. They offer the opportunity for members to play many of the Bay State’s premiere clubs with other active MGA members in an affordable, casual and fun atmosphere for all, while also providing tournament experience for those looking for healthy and spirited competition.

While each event will have a specific lottery close date, members will begin to register for each event beginning on February 9.
