Headline: 2017 MGA Championship Schedule Now Complete After Two Final Qualifiers Were Announced

Merrimack Valley GC (above) and Brockton CC were announced as qualifiers for the 2017 MGA Championship season.

Norton, MA — With the competitive golf season quickly approaching, the MGA announced the dates and sites of its two remaining qualifiers to complete the 2017 Championship schedule. The announcement was made by MGA Director of Rules and Competition Kevin Eldridge.

The second of the three MGA Super Senior Amateur qualifiers and the last to be scheduled will be held at Brockton Country Club on August 3. The last MGA Mid-Amateur qualifier scheduled will be on August 22 at Methuen’s Merrimack Valley Golf Club. The announcement solidifies the now 41 qualifiers for the seven 2017 MGA Championships that require a prerequisite round ahead of each respective Championship Proper.

“We are grateful to finalize our plans with both Brockton Country Club and Merrimack Valley Golf Club regarding our final two qualifiers,” stated Eldridge. “To be able to finalize our schedule allows the MGA staff to take the next step towards facilitating all of our Championships, and we are excited to begin the next chapter with our first Championship coming up in early May.

The MGA Super Senior Amateur Championship, scheduled for September 6-7 at Wyantenuck Country Club, will require three one-day qualifiers ahead of the Championship Proper. Brockton’s qualifier follows scheduled qualifiers at Lexington GC (July 31) and Wyckoff CC (August 10).

Entering its fourth year, the MGA Super Senior Amateur Championship is open to amateur golfers who have reached their 65th birthday by September 6, 2017 and who have an active MGA/GHIN Handicap Index at any public, private, semi-private, municipal or non-real estate MGA member course/club not exceeding 12.0.

Two weeks later, the MGA Mid-Amateur Championship will be contested at Franklin Country Club in what will be the final Championship Proper of the season. Today’s announcement of the addition of the Merrimack Valley GC qualifier concludes the scheduling of the six slated for 2017. All six qualifiers are scheduled for the final 10 days of August at clubslocated across the Commonwealth, including four straight days of Mid-Am qualifiers from August 21 through August 24.

Entries for the 34th playing of the MGA Mid-Amateur Championship are open to amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by September 25, 2017 and who have an active MGA/GHIN Handicap Index at any MGA affiliated club.
