Headline: Marlborough Country Club Opens Door to Eighth MGA Amateur Sectional Qualifier; Hervol Claims Medalist Honors

Jimmy Hervol (above) was medalist at an MGA Amateur sectional qualifier held at Marlborough CC on June 8.

Marlborough, MA — At Marlborough Country Club, the site of the MGA’s eighth of 10 qualifiers for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, the 2015 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Champion Jimmy Hervol, fresh off an appearance in the U.S. Amateur Four Ball Championship over Memorial Day weekend, carded an even par 71 to earn medalist honors and to ensure a spot in next month’s Championship Proper. His top score led the field of 13 whose cards ranged from even par 71 to 4-over par 75.

An additional eight players who shot a 5-over par 76 were listed as alternates and will be placed on the priority list per the Alternate Policy which can be found on the MGA Policies and Procedures Page.

NOTES:
Monday’s medalist Jimmy Hervol, who plays on the men’s golf team at the University of Connecticut, recently competed in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship.

Other notable competitors in the field included 2011 Richard D. Haskell MGA Player of the Year Ryan Riley (Sterling National) and Michael Souliotis (Haverhill CC), who along with his father Mark won the 2016 MGA Father Son Amateur Championship.

Following next week’s Massachusetts Open Championship Proper, the final two Massachusetts Amateur Championship qualifiers will return to the CC of Wilbraham (June 20) and Presidents GC (June 21) as the remaining spots in the Championship Field are determined.
