Headline: Norton High School's Jared Winiarz Continues Stellar Summer of Golf; Finishes as Co-Medalist With Michael Rosenbloom at Massachusetts Junior Amateur Qualifier at Harmon Golf

For Immediate Release: June 26, 2017

Jared Winiarz was co-medalist at an MGA Junior Amateur Qualifier which was held on June 26 at Harmon Golf.

Rockland, MA — Monday marked the start of another MGA Championship Proper season, as the first of six Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship qualifiers was held at Harmon Golf Club, where a total of 13 competitors netted a spot in the three-day Championship that takes place at the Orchards Golf Club later this summer.

With a record number of golfers aged 14-18 signed up for the six respective qualifiers, there should be no question that the qualifiers would put on a great display of talent, and that statement couldn’t have been more true than it was on Monday.

Fresh off an appearance in the Massachusetts Open Championship two weeks ago, Jared Winiarz (NEPGA Jr. Tour) carded a 3-over par 75 to share co-medalist honors with Michael Rosenbloom (Farm Neck GC) and earn a spot in the Championship Proper on the same course in South Hadley that hosted the 2004 U.S. Women’s Open Championship. The MGA Junior Amateur Championship is scheduled for July 31 to August 2.

Monday’s qualifying scores ranged from 3-over par 75 to 7-over par 79. One additional competitor, whose score was one stroke above the final qualifying spot, was listed as an alternate and will be placed on the alternate list per the alternate policy that is available on the MGA Policies and Procedures Page.

Those who qualifier from today’s Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship qualifier are:

QUALIFIERS:
Jared Winiarz (NEPGA JR Tour) 75
Michael Rosenbloom (Farm Neck GC) 75
Matthew Conti (Walpole CC) 76
Will Englander (Cohasset GC) 76
Nick Stewart (Marshfield CC) 77
Tim Hall (Walpole CC) 77
Jared LeClerc (NEPGA JR Tour) 77
Charles Ma (PJ) (Harmon GC) 78
Drew Cratty (Harmon GC) 79
Harry Grosso (New Seabury) 79
Michael Pergamo (Dennis Pines GC) 79
Mithran Denbow (The Ridge Club) 79
Maahin Gulati (Nashawtuc CC) 79

ALTERNATES:
Matthew Byrne (PJ) (Brae Burn CC) 80

NOTES:
This was the first MGA Junior Amateur Championship qualifier since the USGA extended the age limit for the Junior Division from age 17 to age 18. Prior to this past off season, junior golfers would no longer be allowed to compete in an event that took place after their 18th birthday. However, the age increase allows for most competitors to compete in junior events through the summer prior to their senior year of high school.

Jared Winiarz and fellow NEPGA Tour member Jared LeClerc were two of the three NEPGA Jr Tour members who qualified from Monday’s qualifier. At last year’s Championship Proper, held at Salem’s Kernwood Country Club, there were only three total competitors who were affiliated with the NEPGA JR Tour.

UP NEXT:
Five more qualifiers for the 2017 MGA Junior Amateur Championship will take place over the course of the next nine days. Mass Junior action returns on Wednesday, June 28 at Bayberry Hills and Dudley Hill GC and will continue at Ould Newbury GC (June 29), Furnace Brook GC (July 5) and conclude July 6 at Amherst Golf Club.
