Headline: Massachusetts Junior Amateur Qualifying Continues at Dudley Hills Golf Club and Bayberry Hills Golf Club; 17 Competitors Advance to Championship Proper

A second day of MGA Junior Amateur Qualifying was held at Dudley Hills GC and Bayberry Hills GC.

Norton, MA — On the second day of the Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship qualifying, 17 competitors from two hosts sites punched their tickets to the July Championship Proper at South Hadley’s Orchards Golf Club, adding to the 13 spots that were already filled on Monday.

At Dudley Hills Golf Club in Dudley, six strokes were the difference for those who qualified as Pre-Junior golfer Trevor Lopez (Winchester CC) shot a medalist score of 1-under par 71 to earn medalist honors.

In addition to Lopez, five other competitors whose cards ranged from 1-over par 73 to 4-over par 76 will also advance to the three-day tournament, being held this year from July 31-August 2nd at the same site as the 2004 U.S. Women’s Open Championship.

An additional three competitors, who shot a 5-over par 77, or one stroke above the qualifying number, will be added to the alternate list per the alternate policy that is available on the MGA Policies and Procedures Page.

Down on Cape Cod at Yarmouth’s Bayberry Hills Golf Club, three competitors who fired matching even-par scores led the way as the top-11 competitors on the leaderboard learned that they will be able to compete for an MGA Championship Proper title.

Jonathan Mitchell (Franklin CC), John Mikus (NEPGA JR Tour) and Walpole CC’s Grant Griswold all split medalist honors at Wednesday’s qualifier at Bayberry Hills GC.

Two competitors at the Bayberry Hill site who shot 4-over par 76 were added to the alternate list per the alternate policy that is available on the MGA Policies and Procedures Page.

Three more qualifiers for the 2017 MGA Junior Amateur Championship will take place over the course of the next seven days. Massachusetts Junior Amateur qualifying continues at Ould Newbury GC on Thursday, (June 29) and following the Independece Day recess, will take place at Furnace Brook GC (July 5) and Amherst Golf Club (July 6).
