Headline: Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds GC Helps Cap Off 2017 Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Qualifying; 17 Advance to Next Month's Championship Proper

Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds GC hosted the final Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifier on August 31.
Barnstable, MA — The last 2017 Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship qualifier of the season, and the last of the six slated for the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship was held today at Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Club, as 17 competitors who shot 4-over par 75 or better earned their spot in next month’s Championship Proper, the final MGA Championship of the season.

The final MGA qualifier of the season, the 41st qualifier of its kind on the 2017 competitive schedule, featured 71 players vying for a spot at Franklin Country Club, where the 34th contest of its kind will be contested from September 25-27. All competitors will see two days of stroke play before the field is cut down to the low 30 scorers and ties and anyone within five strokes of the lead, who will return for the final 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament on September 27.
On Thursday at Olde Barnstable, it was the likes of D.J. Hynes (Framingham CC), who turned in a solid performance at 1-under par 70 to earn medalist honors.
In addition to the 17 qualifiers, nine competitors who shot 5-over par 76, or one stroke more than the final qualifying spot, were added to the alternate list per the alternate policy, which can be found on the MGA Policy and Procedures webpage.
The 34th MGA Mid-Amateur Championship is open to amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by September 25, 2017 and who have an active MGA/GHIN Handicap Index at any public, private, semi-private, municipal or non-real estate MGA member course/club not exceeding 5.4 (as determined by the July 15, 2017 Handicap Revision) or have completed their handicap certification.
