OVERVIEW

The Women’s Fall Cup Matches are a statewide tournament consisting of three (3) matches played in September between Massachusetts Golf Association Member Club teams – all active Member Clubs are eligible beginning in 2018. The format is match play with six players playing better ball of partners at 90% handicap. Three points are awarded in “Nassau” fashion.

Additional details are as follows:

  • There is no set roster for Fall Cup and a Member Club may use any six players who meet eligibility to field a team. The team can remain the same each match or be changed.
  • A Member Club may have up to two teams (max).
  • Each participating Member Club must allow one match per team to be played at their course.
  • By registering for Fall Cup, a Member Club agrees to be a host.
  • Teams are organized into regions by geographical area with four (4) clubs to a region.
  • One team is a travel team and does not host.
  • The Member Club team that wins its Region moves on to play in the Fall Cup Championship: Date/Site: TBD

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/DETAILS

As one merged organization in 2018 (Massachusetts Golf Association), there will be no WGAM dues going forward for either individual members or Member Clubs.  Any female player with an active GHIN number/handicap index from a Massachusetts Golf Association Member Club is eligible to play on that club’s Fall Cup Team(s).

Eligibility: A player must have a handicap index of 36.0 or less and must have posted five (5) 18-hole scores during the 2017 golf season. The handicap revision of September 1, 2018 will be used for all matches.  Each Women’s Fall Cup Team Chairperson will be responsible for verifying player eligibility.

A player must have played in at least one Fall Cup match for a team in order to play for that team in the Fall Cup Championship.

Entry Fee: The entry fee for 2018 is $120 per team.

Golf Carts & Lunch: Both are mandatory for each event (at the player’s expense) – paid directly to the host club.

Fielding Teams: Each team must be fielded according to handicap indices from the lowest to the highest. Refer to the Fall Cup Manual if fielding less than six players.

It is anticipated that all regions will have four (4) teams. Extraordinary circumstances may result in a club’s second team being unable to participate.  All efforts are made to avoid short regions.

Rain Dates: In the event of a match cancellation, captains may determine the feasibility of a makeup date.

Format: Shotguns, modified shotguns and tee times may be used to start the 24 players. It is preferred that shotgun starts be used whenever possible. Matches are played in foursomes.

Pace of Play: Limited to 4 hours and 30 minutes unless the host course feels that is not reasonable and they may extend the time.
