Mass Amateur Adds 35 More To Field In Third Week Of Qualifying Events
The field is nearly set for the 117th playing of the Massachusetts Amateur Championship after 35 players combined qualified for the Championship Proper via 18-hole qualifying this week at Blackstone National Golf Club, Oak Hill Country Club, Springfield Country Club, and LeBaron Hills Country Club.
This year’s championship heads to GreatHorse in Hampden for the first time, July 7–11. After 36 holes of stroke play, the top 32 scorers will advance to match play, where the stakes rise and the pressure mounts. The event is open to amateur golfers with an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.6.
On Tuesday at Blackstone National, JR Robinson (Whitinsville Golf Club) and Wyatt Barlage (Nehoiden Golf Club) played out of the same pairing and led the field with rounds of 3-under-par 69 and 2-under-par 70, respectively. Robinson, a rising senior at Merrimack College, made seven birdies, including five on the front nine. David D’agostino (Belmont Country Club), who made match play in 2023, was among the eight qualifiers. Joining them was 15-year-old Hanover native Luke Edgar (Harmon Golf), the youngest player in the field, who advanced on the number with a score of 73 with four birdies. Fellow teens Peter Le Gassick (The Kittansett Club) and Jake Doherty (Sterling National Country Club) also qualified for the first time with scores of 72 and 73.
At Oak Hill, Sean Dully (Kernwood Country Club) and Robbie Sisca (Granite Links Golf Club) led eight additional qualifiers with a score of 1-under 69, each making birdie on the par-3s 5 and 17 and the par-5 10th. Longtime Oak Hill member JC Guthrie and clubmate Raymond Dennehy, a UConn standout, also got through by posting scores of 70 and 71, respectively, with Dennehy’s birdie on the 17th getting him above the cutline. Matthew Quinn (Worcester Country Club), who played in the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur, also posted a 71 to qualify.

GreatHorse member Steve Wagner finished one stroke back, joining clubmate A.J. Oleksak, who made 16 pars to qualify on the number with a 74. Springfield member Joe Wilson made a couple birdies to advance, while Jordan Walker (Worcester Country Club) was bogey-free on the front nine and shot 72 to join the group of 10 qualifiers. Luis Teixeira (Ludlow Country Club) went bogey-free on the back nine and advanced with a 73.
At LeBaron Hills, Casey Mills (John F. Parker Golf Course) led nine qualifiers by shooting 3-under 69. Drake Hull (The Cape Club of Sharon) rallied back on the back nine, shooting 5-under 31 to finish with a 70. Matthew Johnson (Charter Oak Country Club) did the same, making consecutive birdies on holes 15-17 to qualify on the number with a 71. Cooper Griffin (Woodland Golf Club), who played in U.S. Open Final Qualifying this year, was bogey-free on the back nine en route to a 70. Reese Jensen (Duxbury Yacht Club), a member of the Massachusetts U.S. National Development Program (USNDP), also got in on the number with a 71.
