WATERTOWN, Massachusetts (June 23, 2026) – Scattered showers across the Greater Boston area proved to hang around as 18 girls from Philadelphia, New York and Massachusetts gathered for the 85th edition of the Girls’ Junior Inter-City Matches at Oakley Country Club. With all teams making their bid for the Enos Cup, the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia would come out on top with 24.5 points to earn its 5th consecutive victory in the event.
The Junior Inter-City Match was first contested in 1934 and has been held every year since except for 1942-1948 during the World War II period and 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Host sites rotate annually among the three golf associations.
Competitors played in the Sweepstakes Round on the first day of the event on Monday. Each golfer was grouped with one member from WGAP and one member from WMGA, receiving individual scores and group best-ball scores. Special contests included a long drive competition as well as a closest to the pin.
Savannah Laverty of WGAP, would take home the longest drive title, with a 265-yard drive on the 445 yard par-5 10th hole. On the opposite side of things, Arya Parikh of WMGA would be closest to the pin, sticking her tee shot on the par-3 15th to 4 feet 2 inches. The sweepstakes pairing of WMGA’s Elie Poremba, WGAP’s Corinne McReynolds and Mass Golf’s Alyssa Paine (Scituate, MA) would shoot 5-under, with McReynolds highlighting the individual sweepstakes at 2-over.

On Tuesday, the teams competed for the Enos Cup using a Nassau format. Each three-person group featured one player from each state, where 1 point is awarded for winning the first nine holes, 1 point for winning the second nine holes, and 1 point for winning the 18-hole match. If any matches are halved, then a half-point is awarded. The team that accumulates the greatest amount of points is declared the winner.
As the girls, and rain, moved into day two, the different format seemed to help some of the girls on team Massachusetts. Paine played well, taking 5.5 out of 6 possible points for her team against WGAP’s Emily Maurer and WMGA’s Victoria Lee. Another key contributor would be Sophie Chong (Nashawtuc CC) who took all three points from WMGA’s Kate Lazarov and one point from WGAP’s Kyla Quimby.

On Monday night, participants were treated to a Q&A session with 2023 Massachusetts Women’s Amateur Champion Rebecca Skoler. On top of her win at Dedham Country and Polo Club in 2023, Skoler also won two Mass Girls’ Junior Amateur titles and the Mass Women’s Stroke Play for the Baker Trophy twice.
More recently, she played for the University of Virginia, a top-20 program nationally. During her time as a Cavalier, Skoler played in multiple ACC and NCAA Championships, adding a career-best second place at UNLV’s The Show tournament. She also played in the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship where she reached match play.

The 2026 Junior Inter-City Team Matches marked the first time that Oakley has hosted the competition. It was last held in Massachusetts in 2023 at Wyantenuck Country Club.
