SACO, Maine – Round 1 of the 22nd hosting of the New England Senior Amateur Championship was contested at Biddeford-Saco Country Club on Tuesday. Located east of Old Orchard Beach in Saco, the 18-Hole Donald Ross designed course seemed to be a challenging assessment for the field of 119 competitors, as two lone players posted a score under par, on this blustery day in Saco, Maine. Among the top finishers on the day, Mass Golf was well represented with the most competitors finishing 2-over par or better.
Paul Murphy (Charles River CC) is one off the lead after firing a 1-under par 70 during the first round. In hopes of winning his first NEGA Senior Amateur title, the 68-year-old carded a total of twelve pars, three birdies, and just two bogies on the day. Murphy is slated to tee off at 1:45 PM off the first tee with fellow Mass Golfer Bud Shultz (Black Rock CC – MA) who sits T3 after an even par round.
