IPSWICH, Massachusetts – On the fourth day of qualifying for the Massachusetts Open Championship, being contested at Vesper Country Club from June 10-12, Thorny Lea Golf Club’s Shuvam Bhaumik carded a 1-over 73 to lead the group of 14 competitors who advanced from the Golf Club at Turner Hill on Tuesday.

After bogeying the par-4 third hole, the 36-year old Bhaumik tallied a pair of birdies on the sixth and seventh hole, and added a third on the 12th hole, to his four bogeys to top the field, edging four competitors who finished one stroke behind at 2-over 74, including 2019 Massachusetts Four-Ball champion Nick Maccario, of Manchester, and Dartmouth’s Mark Purrington, who qualified for the sectional stage of the U.S. Open two weeks ago.
