HINGHAM, Massachusetts – On the second day of qualifying for the 2019 Massachusetts Senior Amateur Championship, 13 competitors from Wednesday’s qualifier at South Shore Country Club earned entrance into the Championship Proper, being conducted at Cohasset Golf Club September 3-4.
An additional six competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies & Procedures Page.
After tee times were delayed by two hours due in part to yesterday’s storms, Bellevue Golf Club’s Charlie Tryder led the field of 74 competitors by carding a 3-under 68 on Wednesday. The 61-year old from Melrose, who started off on South Shore Country Club’s 10th tee, registered his first birdie on the par-3 11th hole to begin his round, and after bogeying the par-4 13th hole, added birdies on three of his final four holes on the way out to make the turn at 3-under 35.
Once on his second nine, Tryder split one birdie and one bogey to seven pars to remain at 3-under for his round, allowing him to finish atop the leaderboard and officially book his spot in the Championship Proper at Cohasset Golf Club in early September. Tryder and Presidents Golf Course’s Bob Meehan were the only two competitors to finish under par on Wednesday. Qualifying scores ranged from 3-over 68 to 6-over 77.
