SHARON, Massachusetts – A total of 17 competitors, including two from the host site, secured a spot at next month’s Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship following an 18-hole qualifier held at The Cape Club of Sharon on Tuesday.
In what was one the most competitive qualifier to date, the top qualifiers were separated from the final qualifiers by just three strokes. A trio of medalists – Michael Beaty (George Wright GC), Gregory Placzek (CC of Wilbraham) and Matt Vaughn (Wampatuck CC) – all finished with scores of even par 72. An additional nine competitors posted scores of 3-over par 75 to claim the final spots.
Included in the list of qualifiers who will be heading to next month’s Championship Proper at Plymouth Country Club are Matt Gorman (The CC of Sharon) and Eric Stepanian (The CC of Sharon), who are both members at The Cape Club of Sharon.
An additional six competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.
The final Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifier will be held on August 27 at Sandwich Hollows GC.

The 2018 Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship will be contested at Plymouth Country Club from September 12-14. Qualifying for the Championship Proper is scheduled to take place at six sites from August 6 to August 27. Additional qualifiers will be held on the following days:
