LONGMEADOW, Massachusetts – On the first day of qualifying for the 2018 Massachusetts Senior Amateur Championship, being contested from September 25-26 at Pine Brook Country Club, six competitors from Tuesday’s qualifier, held at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, earned entrance into the Championship Proper.

An additional four competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot, earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

Leading the charge of competitors Tuesday at Twin Hills Country Club was Robert Bonsall, a Wilbraham resident who tallied three birdies on the front nine and played par-or-better on his back nine en route to medalist honors on his home course. This will mark the first year that the 61-year old Bonsall will play in the Championship Proper.

Entries are open to amateur golfers who have reached their 55th birthday by September 25, 2018 and who have an active Mass Golf/GHIN Handicap Index at any public, private, semi-private, municipal or non-real estate Mass Golf member course/club not exceeding 8.0 (as determined by the July 15, 2018 Handicap Revision) or have completed their handicap certification.

UP NEXT
The 2018 Massachusetts Senior Amateur Championship will be contested at Pine Brook Country Club from September 25-26. Qualifying for the Championship Proper is scheduled to take place at four sites from August 7 to August 15. Additional qualifiers will be held on the following days:

8/13 – Bear Hill GC (Stoneham, Mass.)
8/14 – Sandy Burr CC (Wayland, Mass.)
8/15 – Bay Pointe Club (Buzzards Bay, Mass.)
