Long Meadow GC Hosts First of Four Super Senior Amateur Qualifiers; 16 Advance to Championship Proper

LOWELL, Massachusetts  – James Drohen (Bradford CC) made birdie on his second hole of the day at Long Meadow Golf Course en route to capturing medalist honors at the first qualifier of the season held for the 2018 Massachusetts Super Senior Amateur Championship.

Drohen, the 2003 Massachusetts Senior Amateur Champion, finished with a top score of 4-over par 76 in Lowell to lead a field of 16 qualifiers from that site. Three other competitors earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

Finishing just one stroke back of Drohen was Mike Armstrong (Bear Hill GC), while Kirby Milton (Nabnasset Lake CC) claimed third place overall with a score of 6-under par 78. The top 14 qualifiers & ties from Long Meadow GC were eligible to advance to the Championship Proper, which will be held in October at Haverhill Country Club.

Two additional qualifiers will be held during the month of August.

The 2018 Massachusetts Super Senior Amateur Championship will be contested at Haverhill Country Club from October 2-3. Qualifying for the Championship Proper is scheduled to take place at six sites from August 21 to August 30. Additional qualifiers will be held on the following days:
