NORTON, Massachusetts – Two Spots to the U.S. Senior Open Championship will be on the line Tuesday at Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville when Mass Golf welcomes a full-field of 84 golfers to the Cape for the 18-hole sectional qualifier. The two lowest scorers will advance to the 40th Championship Proper, being contested at The Warren Golf Course at The University of Notre Dame in Indiana from June 27-30.
In addition to the two qualifying spots, first and second alternate positions will be determined at Oyster Harbors – the 11th of 34 qualifiers being held across the United States until June 10th. Oyster Harbors most recently hosted the 2018 Tri-State Matches between teams from Mass Golf, Rhode Island Golf Association and the Connecticut Golf Association.
Of the 84 competitors in the field, 48 list their residency in Massachusetts and of those 48, 34 hold amateur status. Among the competitors in the field are recent Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball champions, Kevin Carey and Joe Walker, as well as Eric Egloff, the 2005 Massachusetts Open Champion, who qualified for last year’s U.S. Senior Open in Massachusetts. Hatherly CC professional Chip Johnson, who competed in the U.S. Senior Open in 2017 at Salem Country Club, is also among the competitors in the field.
