The third of six qualifying events for the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championships took place Tuesday at Crystal Lake Golf Club, with 10 players making the cut.
The Mid-Amateur will take place September 3-5 at Cranberry Valley Golf Course in Harwich, one of Cape Cod’s many public course. The event is open to all amateur golfers (age 25+ as of Sept. 3, 2024) who have an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.0 (at the time of registration).
In his first year eligible for the event, Bobby Malcolm (Oakley Country Club) took medalist honors by recording a score of a score of 3-under-par 68, with Haverhill’s Phil Miceli (Sagamore Spring Golf Club) right behind him with a 69. After starting with eight straight pars, Malcolm made eagle on the par-5 18th and made a pair of birdies to finish out his round.
Justin Sharaf (Bellevue Golf Club) shot 3-under to start his round on the back nine and finished 1-under, matching Scott Henning (Pinehills Golf Club), who made birdie on the 18th.
Former NHL goaltender Mike Dunham (Concord Country Club) and Matt Gorman (The Cape Club of Sharon) both made birdie on the 18th hole to qualify on the number at even-par 71.
