The Massachusetts Senior Amateur Championship is returning to the esteemed Salem Country Club for the first time in 15 years and the third time in event history.
The Senior Amateur will take place September 22-23. The event is open to all amateur golfers (age 55+ as of Sept. 23, 2024) who have an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 8.0 (at the time of registration).
On Tuesday at Twin Hills, former Mass Amateur champion Andy Drohen (The Ranch Golf Course) qualified for his first Senior Amateur by shooting 3-under-par 68 with a bogey-free front nine that included three birdies. Twin Hills member Duncan Parsons also qualified in his first year eligible, as did David Peters (The Tour).
Chuck Edler (Cold Spring Country Club) shot 1-under with three birdies on the front nine, while Twin Hills member Jack Dombek and Salem Country Club’s Kevin MacIntyre qualified on the number at 3-over 74. Former Mass Super Senior Amateur winner Robert Linn (Franconia/Veterans Golf Course) shot 72 to advance.
On Thursday at Gannon, Paul Murphy (Charles River Country Club), who won the 2009 Senior Amateur title at Salem, took medalist honors with a score of 2-over 72 to lead 11 qualifiers. Michael Corbin (Mount Pleasant Golf Club) finished one stroke back with an eagle on the 323-yard par-4 17th.
In his first year eligible, Salem member Jonathan Nekoroski qualified on the number (76, +6) with a birdie on the par-3 9th, his final hole of the round.
