With the final Mass Golf Championship contest just a few weeks away, qualifying concluded for the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship, with 13 players earning a guaranteed spot Monday at Norfolk Golf Club in Westwood.
The championship will take place October 7–9 at Thorny Lea Golf Club. Entries for the event are open to amateur golfers aged 25 or older as of Oct. 7, 2026, who have an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.0.
Former Duke standout Jake Shuman (Blue Hill Country Club), a former co-medalist and No. 1 seed in the U.S. Mid-Amateur, led the field by a wide margin, shooting 5-under-par 65. Shuman knocked down six birdies before making eagle on the16th (Hole No. 7), helping him shoot 31 on the second time around the course.
Mark Lallak (Woodland Golf Club) made birdie on three of four holes on the second nine to advance with a 71, Emilio Bardini (Granite Links Golf Club) carded 72, and John Beres (Andover Country Club) made eagle on the par-5 5th to tie two others at 73.
Mid-Amateur newcomer Jay Cannon (Hopkinton Country Club) qualified on the number with a 74, while TY Kefor (Brockton Country Club) shot 41 on his first nine, but rallied with a bogey-free 33 on the second nine to earn the final spot in the field.
