FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (July 29, 2026) – The 59th playing of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament was set to begin at Foxborough Country Club on Wednesday, but forecasts showing heavy rain had the tournament’s traditional layout altered from the start.
With the competition shortened from 54 holes to 36, half the field was scheduled to compete at Foxborough Country Club on Wednesday and the other half Thursday, including the entire Women’s Division. Persistent rain complicated matters for Wednesday’s competitors, however, as play was suspended twice before being postponed for the day at 12:22 p.m. The opening wave will resume its first round Thursday at 8:15 a.m., with the remaining players to follow.
In the Championship Division, Trevor Drew (Long Meadow Golf Club) and Aidan O’Donovan (Cummaquid Golf Club) sits atop the leaderboard at three-under through 13 holes. The Lowery Division (Seniors) was able to have almost all participants finish their rounds, with Chris Congdon (The Links at Mass Golf) leading the charge, turning in the only round under-par at 1-under (71). Andy Drohen (The Ranch Golf Club) sits in at 2nd with a 2-over 74.
The Ouimet Memorial Tournament is typically a 54-hole, stroke-play tournament featuring an exempt-only field of top junior, amateur, mid-amateur and senior players who belong to Mass Golf Member Clubs. In its current form, the first two rounds of the event take place at one venue, with the conclusion at Woodland.
There’s much to decide in the Championship Division, but seven players currently sit under-par through the holes they have completed. Trevor Drew (Long Meadow Golf Club), the Western Kentucky University junior sits tied for the lead at 3-under-par, carding a bogey-free front nine, included in that was a surge of five holes (7-11) where Drew shot 4-under. Playing in the same group, Aidan O’Donovan (Cummaquid Golf Club), the medalist in U.S. Amateur Final Qualifying at Boston Golf Club, also sits tied for first the lead.
John Lazor (Oyster Harbors Club) nearly completed his round as he shot 1-under through 17, and will in all likelihood make the cut to low 30 & ties in the Division. Despite a less than ideal 3-over front nine, Lazor has turned it around on his back-nine with five birdies. Fellow mid-amateur Ryan Brown (Cape Cod National) overcame three bogeys over his first six holes, to get himself back to 1-under, along with three other players.
Aidan Emmerich (Kernwood Country Club), this year’s Mass Amateur champion, is currently 2-over through 14, two strokes ahead of Foxborough member Michael Pyne.
All but three were able to finish in Wednesday’s flight of the the Lowery Division with Congdon being the lone man under par. Teeing off on the first, he would quickly jump to two-under through four holes and hold on for the most part, finishing at 1-under (71).
Not far behind him is Andy Drohen, the 2024 New England Senior Amateur winner, who turned in a two-over 74 in today’s monsoon. Also teeing on one, three early bogeys had Drohen in a hole but he settled in to finish in a lone second.
The remainder of Wednesday’s rounds will be completed Thursday morning beginning at 8:30am with the rest of the field being played out beginning at 9am. (Championship 30+ ties, Women 12+ ties, Lowery 12+ ties)

One year after his death, friends of Francis Ouimet founded the Ouimet Memorial Tournament to honor his legacy, and it has been played every year since 1968. The first seven Ouimet Tournaments took place at Woodland Golf Club before converting to a co-host model in 1975. Francis Ouimet is the Brookline native who became a U.S. golf legend following his historic victory in the 1913 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline.
Since its founding, the tournament has always concluded at Woodland. In 1975, the tournament expanded when it came under the operation of the Ouimet Scholarship Fund, which awards millions of dollars in need-based college scholarships each year to deserving young men and women who have worked at Massachusetts golf courses.
In 1999, the Ouimet Fund’s 50th anniversary year, the Ouimet Memorial Tournament introduced a senior division named the Lowery Division, which honors Eddie Lowery, Ouimet’s 1913 U.S. Open caddie who became a frequent Ouimet Memorial contestant. And in 2004, the Women’s Division was launched. Alison Walshe won that inaugural year as well as the ensuing two years to become the only contestant — in any of the tournament’s three divisions — to achieve a ‘three-peat.’
Mass Golf took over operations of the event in 2018, and the format of the tournament transformed from a traditional invitational and exemption format that had preceded in the previous decades of the tournament to one that was based on merit in Mass Golf competition and exemptions.
Beginning in 2018, the Ouimet Memorial Tournament featured three days of competition for all three divisions, with the first two rounds conducted at the same venue, and in remaining with the original format of the event, the third and final round for each of the three divisions has continued to be played at Woodland.
