70 Advance In Final Wave Of Amateur Public Links Championship Qualifying - MASSGOLF

Cameron Moniz shoots low Score On Final Day Of amateur public links qualifying

NORTON, Massachusetts – The remaining four qualifying events for the Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship were all held this week. In total, 70 players earned their way into the Championship Proper at Westover Golf Course in Granby from August 17-18.

Tee times and the alternate list will be released at a later date.

For the Amateur Public Links, entries for the event are open to amateur golfers who are public course players at a public Mass Golf member course and whose handicap index does not exceed 12.0. There are exceptions for players with an established handicap at a private club, exceptions include: players competing on a school golf team, provided those privileges are limited to scheduled practices or competitions; or players employed by a private club, provided that their playing opportunities are limited in nature, consistent with those offered to other employees and does not allow participation in any club tournaments.

In Monday’s qualifier at Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley, a pair of players split medalist honors. Joe Wilson (Wyckoff Country Club) and Robert Traylor (Sandy Burr Country Club) both shot 2-over-par 74 to tie for first. Both players recorded made their lone birdie on the third hole. Playing at his local club, Brian Strzempek grabbed solo possession of third place with a mark of 3-over 75. After starting his round with a double bogey, Strzempek settled down to finish in the top three. Fellow club members Jim Morin and Matthew Gurski also qualified with a 76 and 79, respectively.

On Tuesday at Crystal Lake in Haverhill, there was also a split of medalist honors at the top of the leaderboard. Rob Parsi (Amateur Golf Tour of NE) shot 3-over-par 74 with three birdies, including one on his final hole. Paul Haney (Olde Salem Greens GC) matched the 3-over 74 mark with three birdies of his own to split medalist honors.

Five total players shot 4-over 75 to all grab a share of third place. RJ Irving (Stow Acres Country Club) was among those players T3 and his day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 10th hole. Overall, Crystal Lake saw 19 players advance to the Championship Proper.

At Braintree Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday, Jeffrey Kilday (Green Harbor Golf Club) and Mark Harrington (Braintree Municipal GC) each shot 2-over-par 74 to share a spot at the top of the leaderboard. Harrington had three birdies, and Kilday made with an eagle on the par-5 13th hole.

Patrick Kline (Sandy Burr Country Club) shot 3-over 75 to grab sole possession of third place. Oliver Shih (George Wright Golf Course) was 4-over 76 and finished in solo fourth. Shih was one of five players from George Wright Golf Course to qualify. In total, 16 competitors advanced to the Championship Proper.

In the final qualifier on Thursday at the Olde Scotland Links in Bridgewater, one player separated himself to earn sole medalist honors. Cameron Moniz (Swansea Country Club) had 5 birdies on his way to carding a 3-under-par 69 and sole possession of first place.

Daniel Pagan (George Wright Golf Course) was also under par, shooting 2-under 70 to grab sole possession of second place. Collin Oneil (Sassamon Trace Golf Course), Chris Annunciata (Wayland Country Club), and Phil Miceli (Sagamore Spring Golf Club) all tied for third place shooting an even mark of 72.
