Playing at their local club of Kernwood, brothers Christian Emmerich, Aidan Emmerich and Max Emmerich were all able to qualify. Christian finished one stroke behind medalist Matthew Conti (Walpole Country Club), as Emmerich finished with a 1-under-par 69. After making bogey three times in the first 10 holes, he recovered with two birdies and six pars on the final eight-hole stretch. Aidan shot an even par-70, and Max finished with a 72. Max, 22, and Christian, 20, qualified for the Mass Open in 2018 and 2019, respectively, while Aidan, 17, has made it into the Championship Proper for the first time.

Conti, meanwhile, recorded five birdies on his way to the top of the leaderboard at 2-under 68.

Nick Antonelli (Atkinson, NH) and Carey Bina (King of Prussia, PA) were the two professional golfers to qualify, both finishing the round shooting an even par-70.

At The Bay Club at Mattapoisett, Northboro native Timothy Umphrey (Tatnuck Country Club), who recently became a professional, was the top performer by shooting 5-under-par 66. The former UConn golfer, who played The Bay Club during Round 1 of the Mass Amateur, made the turn at even-par but posted five birdies on the back nine, including holes 10 and 11. Dylan Evans (Granite Links Golf Club) was an alternate for the Mass Open in 2019, but on Tuesday guaranteed his chance to compete this year. Consecutive birdies on holes 12, 13 and 14 helped propel Evans to his mark of 4-under-par 67.

Dan Howard (Norfolk Golf Club) and Jordan Burke (Needham Golf Club) also kept clean cards as they shot 69 and 70, respectively, with just one bogey apiece.

Erik Boulger (Walpole Country Club), who has committed to UConn, was among six competitors who qualified with an even score of par-71.

The 111th Massachusetts Open will take place June 14-16 at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg. Oak Hill has hosted six times previously, most recently in 2011. The Championship Proper will consist of 54 holes of stroke play with the low 50 scorers and ties or anyone within 7 strokes of the leader after 36 holes advancing to the final round.

Entries are open to professional golfers and also amateur golfers who have an active USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4 (as determined by the April 22, 2021 Handicap Revision), or who have completed their handicap certification.

The Massachusetts Open was canceled last year due to COVID-19.
