LAKEVILLE, Massachusetts – On the first day of qualifying for the 2018 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship, being contested from July 30-31 at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, 14 competitors from Monday’s qualifier, held at Poquoy Brook GC in Lakeville, earned entrance into the Championship Proper.
An additional five competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot, earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.
On Monday, Jason Cook continued his phenomenal season on the links, firing an eagle and a pair of birdies to finish at 1-under 71 and earn the medalist honors in the first Amateur Public Links qualifier of the season. Cook, of Pine Oaks GC, has already earned medalist honors at qualifying for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, and held the lead as low-amateur for two of the three rounds at last week’s Massachusetts Open Championship. He was the lone golfer under-par Monday.
Established in 1982, the Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship is open to amateur golfers who are bona fide public course players at a public Mass Golf member club (a course/club that provides playing opportunities for the general public seven days a week) and maintain an up-to-date Mass Golf/GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 12.0 (as determined by the May 15, 2018 Handicap Revision).
