7 THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT playing Fall Golf In Massachusetts

For many players, fall golf is the best golf. Whether it’s cooler weather, colorful views, more available tee sheets, or breaking out your favorite quarter-zip, there are endless reasons why these next few weeks offer some of the most enjoyable times to play. Here are some of our favorite reasons to tee it up in the fall.

1. COURSES ARE IN PRIME CONDITION

The golf courses have enjoyed a full season of primping by hard-working superintendents. Every blade of grass has been nurtured to its natural best, greens have cut to near perfection, and tee boxes in are pristine shape. Greens tend to be smoother, fairways thick and lush, and landscaping is at its best.

2. HYPE UP THE SCENERY

Leaf-peeping season anybody? No need to drive out of state for spectacular views of the leaves changing. Save that gas money and put it toward a round of golf. The morning dew, amber light, and colorful foliage make for a spectacular backdrop for your game. The surrounding nature can help take your mind off a bad shot you just hit.

3. SWEATER WEATHER

Look good, play good. You’ve likely heard this before, but we often put our best foot forward and position ourselves for a good day of golf when we are confident and comfortable in what we wear. Luckily, the fall gives you plenty of stylish options. Pants or leggings. Jacket or vest. Pullover or long sleeve polo. Hooded sweatshirt or non-hooded sweatshirt. No matter what you decide, your golf clothing can also double up as your out-and-about-running-errands attire. And remember, it’s always easier to remove a layer than not have enough.

4. LIMITED CROWDS

You may notice finding a tee time on weekends is much easier now. Many golfers put the clubs away from the end of summer until spring. But for those who press on through the fall, it means they generally have the courses to themselves. The next time the Patriots play, take a look at all the empty tee time slots that are open. With no groups in front or behind that means you can play take the game at your own pace. Not to mention, you’ll probably save a few dollars in the process.

5. MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE TO WALK

No matter your age, staying loose during this time of year can be difficult, unless you are moving. If you’re able to, this is the perfect time to skip the cart and walk the course. It keeps the muscles limber and you will stay warm. If you’re worried about the chilly air, try to play in the mid-afternoon when the sun is the strongest.

6. PERFECT TIME TO INVEST IN THE GAME

Looking to upgrade your equipment or improve your game? During this season, you may find special deals in pro shops and from golf retailers. Your local golf professional might also have more time for golf lessons in the fall, so you can end the year with improvement, maybe even shaving off some strokes.

7. LOWER EXPECTATIONS

Playing golf in the fall can truly be a bonus. After all, snow could be right around the corner. In the meantime, enjoy the fact that the pressure is off and that this isn’t necessarily the time to obsess over scores.

You can make fall golf anything you want it to be, but at the end of the day, if you’re having fun, then it’s worth it every time.
