10 Players Qualify For The Mass Open At Pleasant Valley Country Club

For Immediate Release: May 30, 2023

SUTTON, Massachusetts – A beautiful sunny day led to low scores at the final qualifying site for the 113th Mass Open. Ten players carded rounds of 2-over 74 or better at Pleasant Valley Country Club to advance to the Championship Proper. The par-72, 6,700 yard layout played challenging but fair, as lots of birdies were made throughout the day.

Of the 10 who qualified, eight were amateurs residing in the Bay State.

The Mass Open is set to take place at TPC Boston in Norton for the first time from June 12-14. TPC Boston has hosted 17 PGA TOUR Events, 13 of which being FedEx Cup Playoff Events. The tournament is open to professional golfers, plus amateurs who have an active Handicap Index® not exceeding 2.4 (at the time of registration).

Leading the way was amateur Tyler Dupuis (Highfields Golf & Country Club). The rising senior at Bryant University had a superb round of 4-under 68, highlighted by six birdies. Dupuis made the turn at 1-under par and proceeded to close his round strong with a bogey free 3-under on his final nine to claim medalists honors by two shots.

After opening with a bogey on the par-4 10th, Alex Xarras (Oak Hill Country Club) came back and fired six birdies in his last 17 holes en route to a 2-under 70. The 2020 Mass Mid-Amateur Champion Arthur Zelmati also qualified with a round of 1-under 71 thanks four birdies on the day, including one on his final hole.

Pleasant Valley amateurs Sean Magarian and Jared Huggins used their local knowledge to their advantage and posted rounds of even-par and 1-over, respectively to secure their spots. Brian Healy (Nashawtuc Country Club), a rising junior at Hamilton College, also punched his ticket to TPC Boston with an even-par 70.

Rounding out the qualifiers was amateur Jack Tobin (Malborough Country Club). Despite bogeying the 17th hole, Tobin sank a birdie on the 18th to get to 2-over and claim a spot in the Championship Proper.
