Another Record-Setting Season for Member Days

For Immediate Release: MARCH 12, 2018

NORTON, Massachusetts – Ahead of the 2018 golf season, which becomes active for all competitors here in Massachusetts on April 1st, Mass Golf announced that it will once again set a program record with 28 Member Day events this coming season. The popular program, which allows anyone with an active handicap index through Mass Golf the opportunity to play at some of the Bay State’s top clubs, will begin on Monday, April 30 at Segregansett Country Club and will feature play at 26 different member clubs.

“After a long winter season, we are thrilled to pick up where we left off with our successful Member Day program and to offer even more opportunities for members to enjoy some of the many beautiful clubs across the Bay State,” said Connor McDonagh-Poh, a former USGA Boatwright intern who will oversee the Member Day program as a full time staff member this season. “In working with member clubs over the past several months, we have been able to secure several top spots and look forward to showcasing even more as we continue to grow.”

The 28 slated Member Days is an increase from the 21 held during the 2017 season, and signifies an extensive growth since the program was enacted in 2010. In the past two years alone, there has been a 100 percent increase in the number of Member Day events offered throughout the season.

For the second straight year, two Mass Golf member clubs, The Cape Club and the Cape Club of Sharon, will offer a double-shotgun event, with both a morning and afternoon round taking place after full fields highlighted the popularity of the concept a year ago.

Additionally, the 2018 Member Day schedule will also feature its first ever dual event – where competitors will pay one price to play both Waubeeka Golf Links and Taconic Golf Club – host of the 2016 Massachusetts Amateur Championship and 2016 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship, respectively – on back to back days in mid-September.

Designed for golfers of all ages and playing abilities, the popular Member Day events are open to anyone who holds a current Mass Golf/USGA GHIN Handicap index at one of the 360 member clubs across the Commonwealth. The one-day events offer an affordable, casual and fun atmosphere for all, while also providing tournament experience for those looking for healthy and spirited competition.

Registration went live on March 1st for all events, and Mass Golf will once again use an online lottery system to determine the field size for each event – as the number of participants often far exceeds the field size that each club allows.

New for 2018, there will be three divisions for players competing in Member Days with a Women’s Division (4,800-5,200 yards), Men’s Division (5,000-5,400 yards) and a Member Division (5,800-6,200 yards), with prizes being awarded for the top competitor in either net or gross competition.

Following the season opening Member Day on April 30, the schedule also sees six stops in May, three in June, five in July, four in August, three in September and six in October.
