In the final Mass Golf qualifiers of the year, 27 players clinched a spot in the Massachusetts Super Senior Amateur Championship through qualifying events held at Ludlow Country Club and Braintree Municipal Golf Course.
The Championship Proper is set to take place September 29-30 at Country Club of Pittsfield, marking the Super Senior’s return to the Berkshires for the first time since Taconic hosted in 2022. Entries for the event are open to amateur golfers aged 65 or older as of Sept. 29, 2026, who have an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 12.0.
On Tuesday at Ludlow, tournament newcomers Mark Millay (Kettle Brook Golf Club) and Mark Vincellette (Springfield Country Club) led the way with scores of 1-over-par 73 and 2-over 74, respectively. Like Vincellette, Carter Fasick (Westborough Golf Club) and Rick Fleischman (Hopkinton Country Club), who are each eligible for the Legends Division (age 70+), made birdie on the par-4 18th to earn their spots. Fasick has won the Legends Division in past seasons. Fleischman shot even-par 36 on the front nine.
Also new to the event is Don Hodgkins (Amherst Golf Club) birdied the 1st hole, a rare par-3 opener, and added a late birdie on the par-5 15th to shoot 79 and match Ludlow member Michael Cormier, who made birdie on the 18th. Joe Flannery (Wedgewood Pines Country Club) rallied late by making birdie on the 16th and 18th to qualify on the cutline with an 80.
On Thursday at Braintree, Bill Jenks (Brae Burn Country Club) knocked down four birdies to lead eight qualifiers with a score of 5-over-par 77 and qualify for the championship in his first year of eligibility. Neal Piliavin (Wollaston Golf Club) was one stroke back, shooting a 37 on the back nine with 10 consecutive pars. Despite four double-bogeys, David Fulton (Blue Hill Country Club) qualified on the cutline with an 81, making a birdie on the 18th.
