Nolan Skaggs (Plymouth Country Club) made birdie on both the par 5s down the stretch for five total to lead the way with a 2-under-par 70. He’ll be back in the field, as will South Shore member Oliver Paddon, who made birdie on the final hole to make it into red figures with a 71.

Hingham native Ernest McAlister (Wollaston Golf Club) got off to a hot start on the back nine, making consecutive birdies on 17-18 and 1 and 3, earning his spot despite giving a few strokes back.

Holy Cross rising senior Brian Glennon (Cohasset Golf Club) didn’t make a birdie the entire day, but by closing with an eagle, he got himself above the cutline with a 73. Seven total people shot 73, including 17-year-old Charlie Novak (Needham Golf Club). Drew Golden (Black Rock Country Club), a member of the Mass Golf inaugural state junior golf team, also kept a fairly clean card to make the mark at 73.
