FALMOUTH, Massachusetts (September 2, 2025) – Grabbing the lead in the 78th Massachusetts Women’s Senior Amateur during day 1 proved a difficult task. Seven players, all residing in the top 10 spots entering day 2, held a share of the lead at some point at The Cape Club. The leader for most of the afternoon, Danielle Lee (Renaissance), now sits in second place, right behind Tara Joy Connelly (The Kittansett Club).
Lee, who has been playing in this event for the past 16 years, carded one of her better rounds in this tournament, pushing herself to the front of the leaderboard after ending her front nine holes 1-over-par.
“Tee to green, I played pretty well today. I drove the ball in the right position, and then my short game was really good,” Lee said. I gave myself a lot of looks at birdie and par, and a few putts went in, and a few lipped out. It was good to get a couple birdies on the front to get off to a good start.”
Entering tomorrow in the final pairing, Lee sits among a past champion, and a well-known name in Massachusetts Women’s golf. Pamela Kuong (Charles River Country Club), currently in solo third, has taken home the Women’s Senior Amateur title four out of the last five times. Connelly, the current leader and Mass Golf Hall of Famer, has taken the Women’s Amateur title twice, and looks to grab her first Women’s Senior Amateur trophy.
“I think it’s gonna be mainly about not letting playing with Tara and Pam get in my head, and just play my game and whatever happens, happens,” Lee said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play with them and you know, see if I can play my best under those kinds of conditions.”
The first day of Tournament Division golf in the Women’s Senior brought a tie at the top of the leaderboard between Jenni Ceppi (Salem Country Club), Diane Carter Salem Country Club), and Connie Hayton (Sagamore Springs Country Club).
Ceppi was the first group off Tuesday morning, and closed out her round with a 3-over-par 38 back nine to grab a spot on the top of the leaderboard. With a 42-42 round, Carter earned her spot with a strong par-par finish. Hayton grabbed a share of the lead, finishing her round with a solid back nine, and a par on the 18th.
Ceppi, Carter, and Hayton all share a tee time Wednesday morning, and all will be eyeing the Tournament Divison trophy to take home on Wednesday afternoon.
