The Massachusetts Women’s Amateur Championship returns to Dedham Country & Polo Club for the fourth time in its history. Dedham most recently hosted in 2001, when Laura Torrisi hoisted the trophy.
Dedham Polo Club was formed in 1887, becoming Dedham Country & Polo Club after a merger with Norfolk Country Club in 1910. Donald Ross redesigned the existing nine hole course in 1915, then in 1925 Seth Raynor’s re-design, and expansion to18 holes, was completed. Raynor relied on a series of template holes, a design practice started by his mentor Charles Blair Macdonald when golf was first taking hold in the United States. Macdonald honed in on several standout holes in the British Isles and recreated them on American soil. At Dedham, you’ll find: Redan (#3), Cape (#4), Short (#5), Maiden (#8), Alps (#9), Long (#10), Eden (#12), Punchbowl (#13), Biarritz (#14), Road (#15), Bottle (#16), Reverse Redan (#17).
