DUDLEY, Massachusetts –  On the third day of qualifying for the 2019 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship, five competitors from Tuesday’s qualifier at Dudley Hill GC earned entrance into the Championship Proper being contested at Bernardston’s Crumpin-Fox Club in mid-August. For the second straight year, this year’s Championship Proper will feature a mix of both stroke play and match play, as all competitors will play 36-holes of stroke play over the first two days of competition, with the top-16 competitors advancing to match play for the final two days of competition.

An additional two competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot at today’s qualifying site earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

In Tuesday’s qualifier, Worcester Country Club’s John Pagano took medalist honors after firing a day-best 2-under par 70, one of two players to finish in the red. The 15-year old Pagano, who plays on the St. John’s High School golf team, birdied the par-4 seventh hole and the par-5 ninth hole to make the turn at even-par, then tallied back-to-back birdies on his final two holes to take the top spot on the leaderboard.

KOHR Golf’s Matthew Hua finished one stroke behind Pagano while the remaining three competitors shot even par to officially book their places in next month’s Championship Proper.
