71 Secures the TOP Spot AT HERITAGE CC Qualifier ON WEDNESDAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 14, 2019

CHARLTON, Massachusetts – On the first day of qualifying for the 2019 Massachusetts Mid Amateur Championship, 14 competitors from Wednesday’s qualifier at Heritage CC earned entrance into the Championship Proper being contested at Brae Burn CC at the end of September. The Championship Proper will feature 54-holes of stroke play over three days of competition.  The field will be cut down from 120 players to 30 plus ties after 36-holes.

An additional seven competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot at today’s qualifying site earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

At Heritage CC, John Fasick (New England CC) and David Marseglia (Framingham CC) were the only two players in the field to go under par, finishing at a 1-under 70. Despite making bogey on the par-3 third hole at the start of the day, Fasick rebounded quickly on holes four and six making birdies. He completed his round with four birdies to his three bogeys. For the other 70 of the day, Marseglia was also able to wrangle up some birdies of his own. Making four birdies to his three bogeys, that was enough to claim his spot in this years Mid Amateur as well.

Chris Healy (Cohasse CC) and Taylor Fontaine (Worsester CC) were the next two players to advance, after shooting an even 71 for the qualifier.

Celebrating its 36th year in 2019, the Massachusetts Mid Amateur Championship is one of Mass Golf’s youngest Championship. It is open to amateur golfers who have an active Mass Golf/GHIN Handicap Index at any public, private, semi-private, municipal or non-real estate Mass Golf member course/club and who have reached their 25th birthday by September 24, 2019.
