After 21 players qualified Tuesday at Sandy Burr CC, 20 more qualified at Thursday’s event.

Derosier, a former UMass Dartmouth golfer, sank five birdies, shaking off a double bogey on the par-3 13th to finish 1-under. Powers made his fair share of birdies as well, earning three of them, but dropping two shots with bogey on the 1st and 5th holes.

Rounding out the top three would be Patrick Paulson (Stow Acres CC) who finished solo third as the only man to shoot even par. Paulson started with a double bogey but birdied holes 2, 3 and 4 and add another on the 9th for good measure. Two bogeys on his back nine brought him back to 72.

Ryan Derosier earned a spot in next month’s Amateur Public Links championship by shooting a 1-under 71 on his home course Thursday. (David Colt)

Thursday’s event was the fifth of six qualifiers for the Amateur Public Links, which will take place August 10-11 and Gannon Municipal Golf Course in Lynn. The sixth and final qualifier will take place July 7 at Blackstone National Golf Course in Sutton.

During the fourth Amateur Public Links Qualifier on Tuesday at Sandy Burr, former Worcester State golfer Steven Ferraro (The Ledges GC) earned medalist honors at 2-under-par 70, while David Heavey (Presidents GC) and Dave McAdams (Sandy Burr CC) finished one stroke back to lead the field.

Ferraro was even-par through nine holes but made birdie three times on the back nine, including on the 522-yard, par-5 17th to finish in the lead. Despite shooting double-bogey twice on the front nine, McAdams rallied with three straight birdies on holes 10-12 and another on the 15th.

Mike Mckenna (Far Corner GC) was the only player to shoot even-par, while Daniel Schwartz (Brookline GC) started his round by making an eagle on the 468-yard, par-5 opening hole and finished 1-over.

Gannon GC members Dave Stevens, John Boland, Robert Thomas and Alex Fiste will get to compete in the Championship Proper on their home course as they were among eight players who qualified above the cutline at 7-over.
