For Immediate Release: February 9, 2018

NORTON, Massachusetts – Following the completion of the historic merger between the Massachusetts Golf Association and the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts and the launch of online registration for all Championships and Women’s Championships, Mass Golf has announced new point systems to determine Player of the Year. The announcement was made by Mass Golf Director of Rules & Competitions, Kevin Eldridge.

ONLINE: Player of the Year – Men | Player of the Year – Women

Similar to what was previously in place for both organizations, the new Player of the Year Awards will continue to honor the top individuals in both the men and women’s competitions.

“We are excited to announce an updated point system that reflects both the changes made by the Mass Golf organization over the course of the last year in regards to the merger as well to reward the performances of all our competitors who play in events throughout the course of a season,” said Eldridge.

In 2018, Mass Golf will continue to name recipients for the Richard D Haskell Player of the Year, George M. Cohen Senior Player of the Year, Christopher Cutler Rich Junior Player of the Year and the Anne Marie Tobin Women’s Player of the Year. The recipient of each award will be the individual who has accumulated the most amount of points at the completion of the 2018 competitive season based on performance in select Mass Golf, regional and national events that have been decided upon by the Mass Golf Championship Committee.

In addition, a Mid-Amateur Award will be presented to the Class A female player – age of 25 & over – who scores the lowest combined gross score in two events: the qualifying round of the Women’s Amateur Championship and the Keyes Cup (36-holes).

For each of the four championship divisions that Player of the Year points may be accumulated in, top competitors will receive set points based on overall finishes in several Mass Golf sponsored championships during the 2018 season. Additionally, both male and female competitors can garner Player of the Year points in select regional events while all competitors will receive points for both qualifying and overall performance in USGA Championships Proper.

A complete look at the point systems for all four Player of the Year Awards can be found under the Player of the Year tab on MassGolf.org.
