Coming off the September 12 sectional qualifier at Osterville’s Wianno Club in which three local competitors were among the six to advance to the Championship Proper, Massachusetts will have five total players in the field. Auburn’s Kristen Henderson, Lexington’s Sharon Hayes and Ashburnham’s Joanne Catlin all advanced from the 18-hole qualifier while Worcester’s Mary Gale, originally an alternate, was recently informed that she had been selected to compete.

The quartet will join Wellesley Hills resident Pam Kuong, one of 21 competitors who are exempt into the field based on previous USGA success. The 57-year old Kuong was the runner-up in the 2015 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, falling to Karen Garcia 1 up at Hillwood Country Club in Nashville, Tennessee.

She also advanced to the match play portion of both 2016 and 2017 championships.
