SOUTHBRIDGE, Massachusetts – A total of six junior golfers punched their tickets to the Mass Junior Amateur Championship on Tuesday at Cohasse Country Club. Leading the pack was Patrick McLaughlin (Berkshire Hills Country Club) who posted the only round of par or better with an even-par 70.
The 2023 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship Powered by KOHR Golf (July 31-August 3) is open to any amateur golfers aged 18 and under through August 3, 2023, who has an active Mass Golf Membership.
McLaughlin played the four par 3s in one-under par with birdies on holes 4 and 13. After a bogey on hole 14, he saw himself at 1-over par, but thanks to a birdie at the 325 yard par-4 16th, McLaughlin bounced back to even-par and closed out his round strong with two pars to post 70.
Right on his heels was Joey Nee (Walpole Country Club) who fired three birdies of his own en route to a two-over par 72. Rounding out the top three were Ian Rourke (Ferncroft Country Club) and Drew Garelick (Cohasset Golf Club). Both Rourke and Garelick shot rounds of 3-over 73 highlighted with two birdies a piece. Garelick made back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes, while Rourke made his birdies on the 7th and 9th.
Troy Gregg (Wedgewood Pines Country Club) and Hayes Holmgren (Black Rock Country Club) finished at 4-over and 6-over, respectively, as they also qualified for the Championship Proper, which gets underway in three weeks at GreatHorse.
