Mass Mid-Amateur Qualifying: Franklin, Waubeeka, Segregansett - MASSGOLF

51 Players Advance To Mass Mid-Amateur Championship At Willowbend

The final three qualifying events for the 40th Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship are now complete, as 51 players guaranteed a spot in the Championship Proper, set for September 18-20 at Willowbend on Cape Cod.

The championship is open to amateur golfers (age 25+ as of Sept. 18, 2023) who have an active Mass Golf Membership, a Handicap Index® not exceeding 5.4 (at the time of registration), and have played and posted five rounds at any Mass Golf member club/course within 12 months of the entry close date.

On Tuesday, August 22 at Franklin Country Club, Joseph Osborne (Marlborough Country Club) made a birdie then and eagle on the 17th and 18th, respectively, to lead the way at 1-under-par 70 and advance to the championship for the first time. Franklin member Brian Higgins, the 2008 and 2009 champion, shot 73 to advance. First-time qualifiers included Austin Lord (Butter Brook Golf Club), Alec Hurd (Bass Rocks Golf Club), Cam Bushway (The Tour), Monte Marrocco (Oakley Country Club), and Matt Winn (Hopkinton Country Club).

On Wednesday, August 23 at Waubeeka Golf Links, Brett Krekorian (Indian Ridge Country Club) and Matthew Michaud (South Shore Country Club) led the way by pouring in five birdies apiece for scores of 2-under 69. It’s Krekorian’s first time qualifying, as it was for Evan Bissonnette (Cranberry Valley Golf Course), Calvin Beckwith (George Wright Golf Course, Shane Denault (Twin Hills Country Club), and Andrew Lilley (Oakley Country Club). Lilley made an eagle and a birdie on the final two par-5s to qualify on the number at 75.

On Monday, August 28 at Segregansett Country Club, five players went under par, including Cameron Moniz (Swansea Country Club) and Kyle Hoffman (TPC Boston) at 3-under 69. Hoffman made an eagle 2 on the par-4 11th as he advanced for the first time since 2017. Segregansett member Mark Lounsbury shot 2-under to qualify, while Bunt Whitelaw (Duxbury Yacht Club) shot 1-under. Victor Galvani (Framingham Country Club) made birdie on the final three holes to qualify on the number with a 75. First-time qualifiers included: Michael Denault (Oak Hill Country Club), Ryan Rollo (Pinehills Golf Club), Mike Wiseman (Wollaston Golf Club), Leif Jacobsen (George Wright Golf Course), David Russell (DW Field Golf Course), Patrick Sullivan (Marlborough Country Club), and Erik ViVenzio (Brookline Golf Course).
