In the penultimate qualifying event for the 64th Massachusetts Senior Amateur Championship on Wednesday at Swansea Country Club, 14 clinched their spot at Salem Country Club.
The Massachusetts Senior Amateur Championship is returning to the esteemed Salem Country Club for the first time in 15 years and the third time in event history. The championship, which will take place September 22-23, is open to all amateur golfers (age 55+ as of Sept. 23, 2024) who have an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 8.0 (at the time of registration).
Swansea native Jeffrey Dantas (USGA/Mass Golf GC) earned the top score alongside Dave Schreiner (The Cape Club) by shooting even-par 72 on the Swansea layout, which straddles the Massachusetts-Rhode Island border. Schreiner made five birdies in his round compared to three from Dantas, a former Cape Cod Open champion. George Howe (Indian Pond Country Club) got off to a tremendous start with four birdies on his first five holes en route to a round of 73.
Longtime competitor Mark Souliotis (Haverhill Golf & Country Club), a former Mass Amateur finalist, shot 74 to earn his spot, matching Andrew Falcone (Plymouth Country Club), Terry Dunn (Cyprian Keyes Golf Club), and Segregansett Country Club members Jeffrey Kern and Rick Marcos.
Keith Johnson (Charter Oak Country Club), Glenn Kelley (Sankaty Head Golf Club), Joe LeRoy (Indian Pond Country Club), and Greg Clinton (Walpole Country Club) also qualified on the number by shooting 78.
