2021 Massachusetts Super Senior Amateur Qualifying Results - MASSGOLF

40 Players Clinch Spots Into Super Senior Amateur Championship

NORTON, Massachusetts – Qualifying for the Super Senior Amateur Championship, Mass Golf’s final Championship of the season, concluded Thursday with 16 players making the cut at Beverly Golf & Tennis Club.

Through the 3 qualifying events, 40 players made the cut to guarantee a spot to play in the 36-hole championship, which begins October 4 at Wianno Club in Osterville. The Super Senior Amateur Championship is open to amateur golfers who have reached their 65th birthday by October 4, 2021, and who have an active handicap not exceeding 12.0.

At Beverly, Dave Schmink (Bass Rocks Golf Club) took medalist honors at 2-over, despite beginning his round with four consecutive bogeys. He answered strongly by making three consecutive birdies and got to even-par with a birdie on the par-3 15th (163-yards).

John Hassett, the esteemed retired superintendent at Mt. Pleasant Golf Club, was among also made the cut at 4-over, tying Michael Murphy (Blackstone National Golf Club) and Robert McKenna (Ould Newbury Golf Club).

Eight players made the cut back on August 31 at Cohasse CC in Southbridge, led by Ed Garbacik (Ludlow Country Club) with a score of 1-over 71. Garbacik was 2-under 33 on the front nine and held that score through the 15th hole. Carter Fasick (Westborough Golf Club), a multi-time state four-ball champion with his brother John, made two birdies and matched Jim Hosey (Orchards Golf Club) with a qualifying score of 4-over 74.

In the opening qualifier on August 25 at Segregansett CC in Taunton, Jeff Kinder (Dennis Pines Golf Club) took medalist honors to lead the first 16 qualifiers into the championship. Kinder made two consecutive birdies en route to a 1-over 73.
