For Immediate Release: May 23, 2019

NORTON, Massachusetts – When the 2019 Griscom Cup makes its return to Massachusetts on May 30-31 at Worcester Country Club, eight of the area’s top female amateur golfers will set their eyes on the championship trophy as they face-off against teams from both the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia and the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association in the annual two-day, three match Women’s Tri-State tournament that started more than 120 years ago.

This year, however, there will be even more excitement surrounding the event as Mass Golf has announced that six-time Major Champion and World Golf Hall of Fame member Pat Bradley, a Massachusetts native, will be on hand to serve as the Guest Speaker at the Griscom Cup Dinner on the evening of May 30. The dinner, attended by players and representatives from all three respective organizations, is one of the highlights of the Griscom Cup Intercity Matches, one of the longest running women’s amateur golf events in the United States history.

“We are very grateful that Pat Bradley will be able to join us as our guest speaker for the 2019 Griscom Cup, an event that has so much history here in Massachusetts as well in our game of golf as a whole,” said Jesse Menachem, Mass Golf executive director/CEO. “Pat has been a longtime friend to our local golf community and her knowledge and experience is second to none.”

A member on the 1972 Massachusetts Griscom Cup team that competed at New York’s Maidstone Golf Club on Long Island, Bradley joined the LPGA Tour two years later, where she would go on to win 31 Tour events, including the 1981 U.S. Women’s Open Championship at La Grange Country Club, the 1986 LPGA Championship and a pair of du Maurier Classic Championships.

On being able to return to this year’s event, 47 years after last competing in the event, Bradley says, “I’m excited to be a part of this historic and premier team event. Many of the greatest women amateurs have graced this event, including this year’s 2019 teams.”

In addition to Pat Bradley serving as the 2019 Griscom Cup speaker, PGA President Suzy Whaley has sent a video that will be played at the Griscom Cup dinner.

On the first day the matches are a team (foursomes) format and on the second day the players compete in singles matches.
