MASHPEE, Massachusetts (October 15, 2025) – First the women. Now the men. Oakley Country Club completed the first-ever fall sweep of Mass Golf’s team match titles on Wednesday at Willowbend, cruising to the Men’s Team Matches Championship with a team score of 13-under-par total.
Just weeks earlier, Oakley’s women claimed their second Fall Cup Championship in three years. Together, the twin titles helped bookend Mass Golf’s 125th anniversary and spotlight Oakley’s long-standing competitive legacy, one that traces back to its role as a founding member of the Women’s Golf Association of Boston in 1900.
Eighty teams of six men representing Member Clubs across Massachusetts competed in monthly regional competitions using Net Four-Ball Match Play against three other teams from June to September. The best 20 six-player teams, an increase from 15 in the inaugural 2024 season, advanced to the Men’s Team Matches Championship.
The championship used a Net Four-Ball stroke play scoring format, with cumulative team scores determining the final leaderboard. Now firmly established as a new fall tradition, the championship is drawing growing interest from Mass Golf Member Clubs statewide.
“It’s all guys who played well in the regular season, and guys who enjoy each other’s company,” said Oakley co-captain Jim Conroy, who teamed with Robert Kelly to turn in a score of 5-under. “For the first year doing this, we’re incredibly grateful to Mass Golf for a fantastic event and fantastic season.”
Crediting its well-traveled short game to countless rounds on the challenging Donald Ross-designed course in Watertown, which they call home, Oakley’s team effort set its squad well apart from the field.
Andy Wolf & David Joaquin knocked down eight total net birdies to match with a score of 5-under, with Joaquin tallying for in a row between Holes 1-4. Oakley co-captain Jeffrey Foldenauer shot a gross score of 78 (Net 70) to finish 3-under with Duncan MacArthur.
Host club Willowbend finished runner-up with a score of 5-under, led by David Rowe and David Wood with a score of 6-under. Defending champions Foxborough Country Club shot 3-under collectively, getting its top score from Curtis McNeil & Jeff Theriault (-4). However, Nabnasset Lake Country Club won the tiebreaker for third over Foxborough, led by a 6-under Net total score from Don Banks & Mickey Ryan.
Entries for the 2026 Men’s Team Matches will open in the winter, with official registration and competition dates, as well as the championship site still to be announced.
