With the 65th Massachusetts Senior Amateur just over a month away, the field is now almost set after 44 players combined guaranteed their spot via the final three 18-hole qualifying events taking place Monday at Tatnuck Country Club and Long Meadow Golf Club and Tuesday at Quail Ridge Country Club.
The Championship Proper begins September 29 at Worcester Country Club, which is hosting the event for the first time since 1967. The club has also famously hosted the 1925 U.S. Open, 1927 Ryder Cup, and 1960 U.S. Women’s Open.
Entries for the event are open to amateur golfers age 55+ as of Sept. 29, 2025, who have an active Mass Golf Membership and a Handicap Index® not exceeding 8.0. Starting times and the alternates list will be announced at a later date.
On Monday at Tatnuck, Chris O’Connell (Wellesley Country Club) led a large group of 19 qualifiers with the top score of even-par 70 that included a 1-under front nine and three consecutive birdies on holes 3-5 (12-14) on the second trip around the secluded Worcester layout. O’Connell was three strokes ahead of Al Alminas (Franconia/Veterans Golf Course), recent Mass Golf Father Son champion, as well as Jeffrey Houle (Crumpin-Fox Club).
Worcester Country Club members Tom McDavitt and Marty McDonald also advanced with scores of 75 and 76, respectively. Despite starting the round with five consecutive 5s on the card, David Laravee (Westover Golf Course) rallied to an even-par 35 on the back nine to shoot 75. Tatnuck’s Bill Crimmin was also among a large pack that shot 75. Meanwhile, Jim Beall (The Brookside Club) birdied the final hole to qualify with a 76.
That same day at Long Meadow, Jonathan Nekoroski (Salem Country Club) and Chris Craig (The Tour) finished even-par 72, carding 36 on each nine to lead 13 qualifiers. Sanjit Korde (Belmont Country Club) also earned a return trip to the Senior Amateur by carding a 73.
After opening with a birdie Mark Boedicker (Newton Commonwealth Golf Course) created some late-round excitement with an eagle on the 17th (hole 8), which got him above the cutline with a 74. Worcester Country Club’s T.J. Ryan led a large group that qualified on the number with a 75, including Kevin MacIntyre (Salem Country Club), who closed with a birdie to earn the final spot in the field.
On Tuesday at Quail Ridge, Brian Coakley (Charles River Country Club) made birdie on the final two holes to finish tied with Chris O’Neill (Pawtucket Country Club) with the low score of 5-over-par 75. Despite opening his day with a triple-bogey 7, Gloucester native Michael Francis (USGA/Mass Golf GC) made par on 12 holes, including the final seven of the round to shoot 76 and earn his spot.
Raymond Wright (Framingham Country Club), the 1990 Massachusetts Amateur champion, made all three of his birdies consecutively on holes 6-8, lifting him to a 78. Bernie Lynch (Wollaston Golf Club) shot bogey-free 2-under over the last four holes to make it up above the cutline and card a 79. In his first year eligible, Al Jamieson (Marshfield Country Club) advanced to Worcester, making two late birdies on holes 16 & 17 to qualify on the number with an 80.
