Caroline and Nicholas Wilder stay steady to grab their second sheeran title

By Tori Schuller

HINGHAM, Massachusetts (September 17, 2025) – Caroline and Nicholas Wilder reclaimed their Sheeran Modified Scotch Title Wednesday afternoon, at Black Rock Country Club.

The format was modified scotch, in which both golfers hit their tee shot and select which drive they want to use. Then they play alternate shots into the hole. The field was open to amateur golfer teams who are legally married or in a legal domestic partnership and each have an active Mass Golf Membership with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 24.0.

Grabbing the lead in the last few holes of the tournament, the Wilders minimized their mistakes on their back nine, and grabbed their first title at the Sheeran since their win in 2019.

“We were married in 2014 and played at The Country Club, that was our first appearance,” Caroline said. “We’ve played in every event since then, and we love it, it’s our favorite.”

Entering the last handful of holes, the leaders slipped up, leaving the Wilders an open door to take advantage. Because this format allows the players to select the drive, it leaves teams with opportunities to plan and strategize, and the Wilders did just that.

“Caroline has a very good short game, she’s the best putter I know,” Nicholas said. “So as long as I can hit the second shot and put it on the green, I know we’ll have a good chance for sure.”

On their ninth year playing in the Sheeran, the Wilders view it less as a tournament, and as a fun day out on the course.

“It’s nice to get away from work and the family,” Nicholas said. “It’s almost like a date night, but lasts a little bit longer, right?”

The Wilders finished their round at 5-over-par 76, staying steady on their back nine with only two bogeys to outlast the competition.
