NORTON, Massachusetts (May 22, 2025) – The Mass Golf Women’s Spring Team Matches, which began 125 years ago this month, concluded on Thursday after five weeks of statewide competition among Mass Golf Member Club teams.
This year’s matches featured 124 teams divided into 21 divisions called Cups, each with six teams of five players, plus substitutions (Cups 3 and 21 had 5 teams). From April 24 to May 22, teams followed a rotating match schedule. Each week, five teams in every Cup hosted one match day at their home course, while the sixth team was designated as the “travel” team. Teams faced a different opponent each week.
Matches followed a singles net match play format with 100% handicap allowance. Players earned points for each hole won or tied in their head-to-head matchups. The team with the highest cumulative points after five matches was declared the Cup winner.
Mass Golf extends its sincere thanks to all the captains for their dedication in coordinating with their clubs, fellow captains, and team members. We also thank the leadership of participating clubs for their continued support of amateur golf in Massachusetts.
The Spring Team Matches date back to 1900, the same year the Women’s Golf Association of Boston was formed. That year, the original clubs — Oakley Country Club, Concord Country Club, Brae Burn Country Club, and The Country Club — played the first Spring Team matches. The WGAB became the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts (WGAM) in 1929, and in 2018, the WGAM merged into the Massachusetts Golf Association to form Mass Golf.
